The Armory Show New York 2012 Art Fair The contemporary art world converges in New York City this week for the annual Armory Show and other art fairs around Manhattan. I enjoy attending the New York art fairs each year, and here I am again, in search of engaging artworks for my clients.

The 2012 edition of The Armory Show art fair is scaled down in size from previous years, which I found to be a good thing. More meat, less fat!

Sadly, the art world has lost a unique visionary. Lillian Bassman, known for her alluring, high-contrast fashion images of the 1940 and 1950’s and her work as a fine art photographer, has died at age 94. Her images transcend glamour, they are sublime celebrations of female beauty.

Preview night of Art Los Angeles Contemporary was enlivened by an installation created with 25 tons of dry ice and glowing flares. Presented by Judy Chicago and Materials & Applications, the piece is a reinvention of Disappearing Environments, a 1968 work by Judy Chicago, Lloyd Hamrol, and Eric Orr.

Art Los Angeles Contemporary, the international contemporary art fair of the West Coast, brings together 70 blue chip and emerging galleries from around the world with a focus on Los Angeles galleries. Visit ALAC January 19-22, 2012 at Barker Hanger in Santa Monica, California.

New Art Fairs Launch in Los Angeles In addition to Pacific Standard Time, the unprecedented collaboration of more than sixty cultural institutions across Southern California coming together to tell the story of the birth of the L.A. art scene, three art fairs launch this weekend in Los Angeles:
