Balloon Dog (Orange) by Jeff Koons is the the most expensive art work by a living artist ever to sell at auction, achieving $58,405,000 at Christies NY in 2013.

German artist Gerhard Richter holds the number one spot in this list, with 740 lots of his art works selling for a total of over $760 million, followed by Zeng Fanzhi (Chinese), Jeff Koons (American), Fan Zeng (Chinese) and Christopher Wool (American). Chinese artists occupy five of the top ten highest art auction records by sales volume.
