American artist Ed Moses is known as an innovator, experimenting with new artistic processes and unconventional materials throughout his long career. He has been a significant figure in contemporary art in Los Angeles since his first solo exhibition at the legendary Ferus Gallery in 1958. “Aleff” is one of Ed Moses’ newest works. Copper rails bracket the sides of the colorful, rugged painting and a chain creates a graceful arc across the surface.

\nCurrently Ed Moses is the subject of two major shows. “Ed Moses: Drawings from the 1960s and 70s” is on view at Los Angeles County Museum of Art<\/a> through August 2, 2015. The LACMA exhibition is comprised of approximately 100 works from LACMA\u2019s collection, the artist\u2019s own holdings, and those of other museums and private collections. And “Ed Moses: Now and Then” is at William Turner Gallery in Santa Monica through August 15, 2015, featuring some of the artist\u2019s latest paintings as well as works from earlier decades.<\/p>\n

The artwork of Ed Moses has appeared in exhibitions around the world, and his pieces are included in the collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, the Menil Foundation, the Museum of Modern Art, The Corcoran Gallery of Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art, among others. Moses\u2019 career was the subject of a major retrospective at the Museum of Contemporary Art in 1996, and his art was featured in the Pompidou Center\u2019s survey exhibition ”Los Angeles: Birth of an Artistic Capital, 1955-1985” in Paris.<\/p>\n
